The gaming industry goes through that as well as the film industry.
In some cases sequels work and in other cases they don’t. Resident evil (1st person) did a great job of soft rebooting the franchise with a refreshed take on the survival horror genre, whereas the remakes are debatable in terms of content. I can’t really say much for the sequels but sequels were put in place to generate revenue and interest while sacrificing/dividing the fan base. Terminator and terminator 2 were hits and are still remembered today as one of the great genre films. It’s a shame that AAA titles have been collecting dust, but new titles came out of ex Konami staff such as Bloodstained and Hideo Kojima has another new project green lit so that’s something to look forward to down the road.
